These 6 Tools Will Make You the Marlon Brando of Video Marketing

What if someone told you that companies using videos for their marketing grew their revenue 49 percent faster than those who didn’t use video? And then what if that person told you that they wanted to share some video marketing tools with you that would help you create video to incorporate into your marketing strategy?

You might say that it's an offer you can’t refuse.

Well, here’s that offer to make you the Marlon Brando of video marketing in your business. Nominated for nine Oscars (he won twice), Brando was an icon for decades, and (despite being kind of a jerk off camera) he's still remembered for his work. Here are six tools to help you do great work for video in your business (sans jerkiness).

1. Buzzsumo

Can you imagine putting tons of work into a video that doesn’t perform at all?

Before you start making videos (or any kind of content), you need to think strategically about what videos will actually work for your business. So before you hit the lights and roll camera, do some research. Buzzsumo is the primo platform to analyze what recent content performs well and where it’s the most shared.

You can search by topic or keyword, and look at content shared as recently as the past 24 hours and as far back as the past five years.

You can also assess what platforms typically share your topic the most, so you can strategize which social platform(s) you’ll want to focus your promotion on, and even what day of the week they’re the most shared on.

2. Animoto

You don’t have to be a trained editor or filmmaker in order to make your business a contender in video marketing.

Editing can certainly be tricky and confusing if you’re using a heavy hitting software like Final Cut Pro. But unless you are a professional, there’s no reason to spend the time or money on specialized video editing software when there are platforms out there that make putting together a video super easy.

Animoto is an excellent platform for editing novices with simple, straightforward video needs. Animoto comes loaded up with pre-made templates, and all you have to do is choose a template, drag and drop footage or still shots, and add some text.

3. iMovie

If you have a bit more experience with editing, iMovie is a great way to go. It gives you more freedom than Animoto to create the video that you want, and you don’t have to rely on templates.

iMovie also really ups the quality of videos, since if you shoot it on a recent iPhone, you have the potential to create a video shot in 4k resolution. It comes in desktop and app form (for iPhone and iPad), though it does of course require you have a Mac operating system.

4. Pixabay and Pexels

Even in mid-size businesses with video teams, it’s not always feasible to get the video footage you need (or want). And that’s why the internet created stock photography and video sites. And then it created free stock footage sites.

If you have a website or made promotional materials, you've probably scoured stock...

Pixabay and Pexels both have excellent selections of royalty free stock footage that you can use as primary footage, B-roll, and even green screen backgrounds (like we did at the end of our stock photo video).

5. Audio Jungle

If you don’t want to use the music provided in a template-based editing platform, Audio Jungle is the perfect place to buy stock music. Do not—I repeat DO NOT—just download a song from YouTube and paste it over your footage, no matter how perfect you think it is. Just like photos, there are intense licensing rules about music that are just as strictly monitored. And believe me, you do not want to be stuck paying thousands of dollars to whomever owns the rights to a hit song.

Instead, spend $15 for a song from Audio Jungle. Sure, it’s not The Beatles, but there’s some great stuff on there that will be perfect for your video. And once you buy a song, you can use it in as many videos as you like.

6. Wistia

Once you make your videos, you need a place to put them. While YouTube is a free place to put your videos, I strongly recommend that you put your videos on a platform that can provide strong analytics, ties in with your email tools, and even helps with SEO. Wista allows you to put CTAs in your video, in case you, say, wanted to get someone’s email before they watched your video. Wistia even has heatmaps so you can see exactly what a person watches, skips, clicks, etc.

Kudos to you for getting in on video marketing! Video is no small effort, but it can also be a very manageable one with these tools. So get out there on your path to video marketing greatness.
