Podcasting. Suddenly it seems it’s entirely reasonable to say “all the cool kids are doing it”. *
*Psst: If you read that line about the cool kids and you’re worried that you’re not yet a cool kid and you suddenly felt like you did that one time when nobody would play with you on the playground and now you’re suddenly overcome with this intense desire to start a podcast NOW—head over to this post, where podcaster Sara Blackthorne walks you through the steps to start your own.
As a small business owner, if you’re not one of the 3 percent of marketers who use podcasting for their business or one of the 32 percent who indicate a desire to learn how to podcast, there’s a good chance you might be one of the 39 million of Americans who listened to a podcast in 2014.
There are great reasons to start a small business podcast—from improved SEO to social sharing to content engagement—if you’re marketing a small business (and you probably are, or you wouldn’t be here) you may already host a podcast of your own, or be seriously considering starting one.
However, aside from a powerful source of awareness and leads, podcasts are one of the simplest ways to get actionable small business education.
You don’t have to buy a book, download a bunch of materials, or pay to take a class. All you need is your smart phone or computer and you’re ready to go. Listen while cleaning, while stuck on the freeway, or while you work off some steam at the gym.
There are countless lists of the best podcasts for small business owners. Those lists are filled with wisdom from big name experts and popular online marketers and you should probably listen to every single one – and take notes (in all your free time, of course).
This post, however, is a list of the best small business podcasts you probably aren’t listening to yet. I polled my own small business communities to see which podcasts they couldn’t get enough of, and several names showed up again and again.
These are not necessarily the longest running podcasts or big names in the small biz world—but they are delivering educational and entertaining content to entrepreneurs growing their businesses in a digital world.
And you’ll probably want to subscribe to all of them.
